I just laugh when people say Wilt Chamberlain could not play in today’s NBA. Here he is in 1953, at the age of 17, just after his sophomore year in high school. He was already 7’1” tall. He probably would have made the US Olympic Track & Field team as a decathlete, as he could high jump near the World Record, he could shot put as well as NCAA placers and his time in the 400 meters was also exceptional. That’s the three phases of the decathlon: running, throwing, jumping. Then, he could play. I hope some ‘analytics’ genius will not inform me, “But he couldn’t shoot the three.” The guy was 50 years ahead of his time. Maybe more than that.
